Gibson
The Mowhaks of Gibson relocated to Gibson Township from Oka, Quebec in 1881, due to land problems between the Indians and the Seminary of St. Sulpice. 25,000 acres of land was acquired from Ontario to establish the reserve. By 1928, when it was apparent that not all of the Oka Indians relocated to Gibson, Canada returned 10,500 acres to the province without surrender by, or compensation to, the Gibson Indians.
